Coupon Binder Cover

Wow, I've really been out of it for a while, haven't I?  I guess between finding out we are expecting #3 and experiencing the complete exhaustion that comes in the first few months of pregnancy, finalizing and preparing for the Primary Program for my ward, and making a flying trip to Idaho for my grandma's funeral, it's been a crazy couple of months.

I wanted to share my latest sewing project.  A while back I saw these cute binder covers for coupon binders at Stylin' Binders.  I wanted to get one thinking that if I had a cute way to carry my coupons, I'd be more likely to take it with me and save more money.  Stylin' Binders has a PDF pattern you can purchase, but I really didn't want to pay for it.  So, being the beginner seamstress than I am, I decided I could figure it out myself.  Well, it took me almost all day and a lot of ripped seams and frustration - partly because my sewing machine started acting up and I don't know enough about it to know how to fix things - and a phone call to my grandma who's been sewing most of her 80+ years, but I did it.  And it's SOOOO cute, if I do say so myself.

This is what it looks like from the front when It's all closed up.  It looks like such a cute tote bag.  You'd never know it had a binder, and someday a lot of coupons, inside.

This shows the side flaps that velcro to the back to keep all those coupons, ads, etc. from falling out all over the place!

This shows the binder all opened up.  I put in a pocket for pens, scissors, etc.

Stylin' Binders sells these for $30+, not including the binder.  Mine cost me practically nothing, except a few hours.  The material was some that my grandma gave me from her stash.  I had the binder from who knows what.  I already had the velcro from a years gone by project I never finished.

It makes me feel so good to have not only made this myself, but that I figured out how to do it without a pattern.  It's so cute, I may just have to make one for my Primary binder so I don't have to carry around another bag every Sunday!
